What are Anti knock back springs?

They put a small amount of pressure on the back of the pistons so that they push the pad back to the disc if they are moved during cornering.

Pad knock back is the feeling when you try to brake and the pedal goes to the floor, meaning you need to pump it twice or more to get the feel back in the pedal.

When does knock back occur?

Knock back is most commonly found on old cars with long stub axles, like the Ford Cortina and older model Escorts.

When going round a fast corner the stub will flex slightly which causes the disc to move side to side in the caliper, pushing the pads and pistons back. This in turn leaves a gap between the pad and the disc, this gap needs extra pedal work to close, and that is known as knock back.
